The Origins of Breast Cancer
Breasts are glamorized in our society, but the fact is they are actually nothing but glands. Inside a woman's breasts are sacs that produce milk, called lobules, and the ducts that lead from the lobules to the nipple. The rest of the breast is primarily fat, with blood vessels and lymph vessels running throughout. Most malignant tumors start in the ducts. They can also form in the lobules, or the other breast tissue. Know your breasts, inside and out. You can find diagrams online that will show the structure of your breast. The American Cancer Society Web site is a good source for this type of information. If it ever comes up with your doctor, you'll know what is meant by 'ductile breast cancer' and other terms.
