The single most important weapon in the battle against breast cancer is early detection. If there is cancer in your breast, the chances that you can be treated and cured with few or no lasting side effects are vastly increased by finding it early. Mammograms do not always detect every kind of cancer, but screening is the best first line of defense. Screening is only as effective as the women who use it. Make sure to do a monthly self-exam, and have a clinical exam and mammograms as recommended by your doctor.
