Odds that Breast Cancer Will Return

Recurrence of breast cancer is always a possibility. Women whose lymph nodes were affective, or who had larger or more aggressive tumors, have a higher chance of recurrence. Cancer can come back at any time, although most cases of recurrence happen in the first three to five years after treatment. Breast cancer can recur anywhere in the body, including the lymph nodes, lungs, bones or liver. Continue to perform monthly breast self-exams and keep all scheduled doctor's appointments. Tell your doctor about anything unusual anywhere in your body, not just your breasts.
