Advice on Breast Cancer Reconstruction
When to Have Breast Reconstruction Done
Breast reconstruction can often be performed immediately after a mastectomy, in the same operation. Benefits of this
procedure include avoiding another surgery, shorter recovery time than if you had two surgeries, and not waking up
from the surgery without a breast. Some women choose to have two separate procedures, preferring to focus on beating
their cancer before worrying about their appearance. Some also want to take time to decide if they want to have reconstruction.
It's important to remember that you can choose to have reconstruction later. You can weigh your options and decide, coming back
after the mastectomy has healed.
