If a lump or abnormality is discovered in your breast, your doctor will probably do a biopsy. A biopsy involves taking a sample of your breast tissue which is tested for cancer. The procedure can often be done in the doctor's office, under local anesthesia. A biopsy is the only way to determine if a lump is cancerous or not. There's no need to panic if your doctor orders a biopsy. Eighty percent of breast biopsies do not reveal cancer. If your doctor orders a biopsy, stay calm and keep a positive attitude. The odds are vastly in your favor that no cancer will be found.
